The Cabin

About this cabin

Dramatic, dark-sided, and tucked so deep in the pines it barely announces itself from the road — this Grayling A-frame chalet is exactly the kind of place you come to disappear for a few days. The classic triangular silhouette rises from a carpet of forest floor, its dark olive-green board-and-batten exterior contrasting crisply with a new wood deck and black steel railing up front. It's a proper Northern Michigan chalet in the woods, and the photos don't let you forget it.

The heart of the home

Through the door, the main living space is a low-ceilinged but genuinely comfortable room anchored by a deep sectional sofa in warm taupe, green velvet throw cushions, and a big upholstered ottoman with a wood tray. Forest-green linen curtains frame the windows, and a ceiling-mounted Epson projector and soundbar turn the room into a private cinema once the sun goes down. The kitchen beyond is a standout, knotty-pine ceiling, shiplap walls, warm wood lower cabinets paired with white uppers, a proper island with three bar stools, stainless range with hood, and a full black refrigerator. It's a real cook's kitchen wrapped in cabin character.

Where you'll sleep

Two bedrooms sleep 4. The upper loft bedroom is the one you'll want, tucked under the A-frame pitch, with knotty-pine walls, a queen bed in sage green and white bedding, and a window that looks straight into the treetops. Quiet and genuinely cozy.

Outside your door

A fresh wood picnic table sits on the front deck between the A-frame's angled walls, a sheltered spot for morning coffee in the pines, with the forest canopy overhead.

What's Nearby

You're in the Au Sable River valley, one of Michigan's great trout-fishing corridors. Grayling sits at the heart of it, canoe liveries, state forest snowmobile trails, and Hartwick Pines State Park (the last old-growth white pines in the Lower Peninsula) are all within a few miles.

Perfect For

Two couples or a small family of four after a quiet, stylish forest retreat with a real kitchen, a projector-and-soundbar movie setup, and easy access to paddling and pine-forest trails.
