The Cabin
About this cabin
Sculptural driftwood columns at the entry, a stone-faced facade, and a wide plank deck right on the river's edge — Monarch Lodge is a truly one-of-a-kind Northern Michigan cabin rental that announces itself before you've even crossed the threshold.
The exterior is a blend of river-stone masonry and cedar shake siding, with the covered front porch supported by organic, bark-on log posts that look carved from the forest itself. Impatiens in full bloom line the entry, and a path leads around to the large riverside deck where teak loungers and a dining table sit facing open water through the canopy of mature maples and pines. A hot tub is visible at the far end of the deck.
Inside the lodge
The foyer continues the organic theme, two massive driftwood-root pillars frame the interior entry door, which is backlit by a stained-glass panel of river stones in greens and blues. The kitchen is the star of the interior: warm knotty-pine cabinetry floor to ceiling, dark granite countertops, a large prep island with three bar stools, a gas range, stainless French-door refrigerator, microwave, and a tongue-and-groove pine ceiling overhead with pendant lighting. The dining area sits at a picture window, a three-panel wood-framed view straight onto the river and the deck, green-leafed trees arching overhead and the water running clear below.
The bedrooms
Three bedrooms accommodate up to 18 guests. The master suite photographed is a rounded, light-filled room, curved walls from the lodge's architecture, four generous windows overlooking the pines, a king bed, armchair reading corner, TV, and hardwood floors. Two full baths serve the property.
Outside your door
The riverside deck is the reason people book this place, teak loungers for sunning, a six-person dining table for evening meals, and a hot tub at the end, all with the river running alongside. BBQ and balcony-patio amenities complete the outdoor living.
What's Nearby
The lodge is a short drive from downtown Traverse City's restaurants, wineries, and waterfront, and the river setting puts you practically in the middle of Northern Michigan's best paddling and fly-fishing country.
Perfect For
Larger gatherings, family reunions, wedding parties, or group retreats for up to 18, who want lodge-level space with genuine riverside atmosphere and a hot tub to end the day. Pets welcome.
