The Cabin
About this cabin
Cedar-sided, snow-dusted, and wearing that unmistakable red door like a badge — this vintage cabin in the Manistee National Forest corridor is the real thing, unchanged where it counts.
You approach through bare-limbed hardwoods, the honey-gold cedar siding glowing against deep snow, icicles hanging from the eaves. A bold red double-door anchors the front, a picnic table and Adirondack chairs snow-covered to one side and a charcoal kettle grill nearby. There's nothing manicured or contrived about the setting, this Baldwin cabin rental sits in genuine north-woods forest, quiet enough that you notice the silence. A second structure photographed from the rear shows a gabled addition, the whole property sprawling comfortably through the trees.
Inside the cabin
The cathedral-ceilinged great room is the first thing you see stepping in, floor-to-ceiling knotty oak wood paneling on every wall, vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, a ceiling fan overhead, and a bank of large windows looking straight into the snowy forest. Plush reclining sofas and upholstered armchairs face a coffee table on a sisal rug; an adjacent dining area with chairs is visible through the opening. A separate living room wing features wood-paneled walls, a sleeper sofa, a floor lamp, and a slide window to the snow outside, a quieter retreat off the main room. The kitchen is well-stocked in the same warm wood palette: full-height oak cabinetry, a white refrigerator, electric range, microwave, and a double stainless sink, everything needed for cooking large group meals. Two full bathrooms round out the service; one is photographed with a tub-shower and a fly-fishing-print shower curtain that feels exactly right for a cabin near Manistee's trout rivers.
Where you'll sleep
Three bedrooms accommodate up to ten guests, a genuinely generous count for a forest cabin. The bathrooms' tub-shower configuration works well for large groups coming in from a day outdoors.
What's Nearby
The cabin sits close to the Pere Marquette River, one of Michigan's most celebrated trout streams, and the Baldwin trails network. Baldwin is the heart of the Manistee National Forest, with canoeing, mountain biking, and snowmobiling all minutes away.
Perfect For
Groups of up to ten, hunters, anglers, snowmobilers, or families, who want a classic wood-paneled north-woods cabin with real forest isolation, a big communal great room, and easy access to the Pere Marquette River and national forest trails.
