The Cabin
About this cabin
Cheerful, lodge-warm, and only a short walk from the largest inland lake in Michigan — this family-friendly cottage in Houghton Lake packs more personality into its trim footprint than most places twice the size. The cream-painted exterior sits in a generous yard among bare-branch oaks and maples, a pair of Adirondack chairs and a metal fire pit already arranged in front like an invitation.
Inside the cabin
The living room leans into its northwoods identity: an antler-base floor lamp, a barnwood-framed mirror, a Michigan Great Lakes wall silhouette, and a caged-pendant light fixture give the space a lodge-cabin feel that's been curated over time rather than staged for a weekend. The sofa faces both a dining table and a pair of forest-facing windows, and a coffee bar-style cart tucked to one side keeps the morning ritual easy. The kitchen carries through the warm, hickory-cabinet-and-granite-look-counter aesthetic with a dishwasher, Keurig, and full appliances for real cooking.
The bedrooms
Three bedrooms sleep six across two updated bathrooms. A queen room with mint-green walls and a ceiling fan keeps things cool and calm; a second room fits both a bunk set and a full-size bed with a "Beach Rules" sign, an honest summary of the vibe. The renovated bathroom features a dark-stained vanity, hexagon-tile floor, and a stone-tile walk-in shower.
Outside your door
The fenced backyard has a fire pit ring with assorted patio chairs for evening fires, and the front yard Adirondacks and picnic table are the right place to watch the neighborhood settle into a slow Michigan evening.
What's Nearby
Houghton Lake's public boat launch and sandy beach areas are a short walk away, the lake is known for walleye fishing, pontoon cruising, and snowmobiling in winter. The Houghton Lake village strip has restaurants, bait shops, and ice cream, and Higgins Lake State Park is a twenty-minute drive for some of Michigan's clearest swimming water.
Perfect For
Families with kids who want bunk beds, a fire pit, lake access on foot, and enough room for six without anyone tripping over each other.
